Before you head down this road, know that your PC and network need to be robust to support a pleasant wireless streaming experience. There is a side-loaded add-on from the developer that converts the Oculus USB development drivers to function over a wireless network. It is available in the Quest store for $19.99. Virtual Desktop is a desktop streaming app that allows you to control your desktop PC from your VR headset. It turns out that with a little ingenuity and a couple of apps, you can have your cake and eat it too. Linking works really well with the right cable, but even a single cable can be bothersome once you’ve experienced wireless freedom. Of course, you can use a link cable to connect your Quest to a PC and use it to play Oculus Rift or Steam VR games. There are ports of popular games like Beat Saber, Onward, and Robo-Recall for the Quest headsets, but they don’t quite stack up to the full versions that I play on my Rift. If you have a Rift or Hive you are probably enjoy playing AAA titles like Project Cars 3, Star Wars Squadrons, or the new Half-Life all of which require a powerful desktop PC. However, the electronics inside them are similar to a Nintendo Switch or high-end phone and this means the games are limited to those types of environments. The trade off is a loss of processing power.ĭon’t get me wrong, the Quest, and especially the Quest 2 are packing some serious hardware and can deliver amazing experiences. The experience is more immersive without a tether bouncing off your back and the worry of tripping. I have practically the exact same config on my laptop and desktop and it's only on my desktop pc.Īll I need to access in the setting is to change the audio config of mirroring the headset and desktop sound but can get access to it.Pretty much the first thing people realize after spending a few minutes in virtual reality via the Oculus Quest or Quest 2 headset is that VR should never have wires. It's not happening with any other program. I've right clicked on the 'peek' settings window and tried to minimise/restore and move the window. I've tried cascading windows, show windows stacked and side by side. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling steam and steam VR, updated everything and even tried the beta versions. If I hover my mouse over the Steam VR icon on the taskbar a 'peek' view shows I have the status window and the settings window open, I can not focus on the settings window though. When I try to open the settings window (through the status desktop window menu) nothing shows up. What's happening is I open Steam VR- the status window appears on my desktop - the app runs on my headset fine, I've looked for a solution for a few weeks now without success. I've been having a strange problem recently with Steam VR setting window not showing on my desktop. ![]()
